The location of this singular piece of architecture within the city of Atarfe entails a bet on the regeneration of the urban structure in its environment, being at the same time a link between the traditional centre of the town and the new urban sprawl areas.

The idea is to implement a type of architecture which uses form, space, composition, and materials as its main tools to solve each of the needs, which is clearly illustrated by the proposals presented during the design stage of the Cultural Centre.

Architecture is no longer something just useful, but becomes a new way of expression. The result of all these ideas consists of some organic pieces which make up the cover of the building, adapting to the space of the auditorium and of the stage area.

This cover flies over the public space creating an open air hall which acts as a true anteroom to the auditorium. The two main pieces rest on a continuous stone skirting base where the corridors and main premises which are common to both spaces are to be found.

The volume of the auditorium becomes a prominent issue, turning it into the main piece of the whole set, whose cover presents a structure made of successive rows of copper shells, which offer a dynamic image. A similar set of volumes is to be found in the library.

A large curtain wall leans out into the new public space, producing a visual continuity between the hall of the auditorium and the public space which lies before it. Stone, copper, and glass are the elements which bring this project to fruition.
