TECMA Clinic, Center of Medical Technologies, Spain
This tool allowed us to organize the public spaces in the building as the result of the dialogue among the programmatic volumes. The conception of multiple use spaces, always illuminated, even when some of the areas are not in use.
The architects wanted to manifest the different uses from outside using the façade materials as an expression of this circumstance. Stone, U-glass, concrete, and especially copper, in different modalities, carry out that function.
No doubt light is another of the materials used on their palette. It was brought into the building everywhere with openings, skylights or glassed façades.
The interior was delicately designed according to each function but especially providing quality and comfortable spaces.
The roof has a very important task, as unifier of the set. It accommodates all the pieces, changes its shape where is necessary to create outer covered areas, and it’s perforated to introduce light. In order to generate this complex form the architects chose copper, helping to perform the cover as desired. Also the copper was employed to create the volumes of the secondary entrance and medical offices, with its particular shape. The emergent windows crossing the U-glass surface were also created with green copper.
